The Advent of the GLBT Audiobook

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

In the last few years many authors who write GLBT fiction and non-fiction have discovered the audiobook as a way to extend their reach as well as creating a new source of entertainment for the GLBT audience. Our panel will discuss this exciting new medium from the perspective of the author, narrator and producer. Is the sale of GLBT audiobooks lucrative for audiobook publishers? Is it good for professional GLBT actors to narrate GLBT audiobooks, or will this hurt their prospects in mainstream entertainment? Why is it difficult to get GLBT audiobooks reviewed in the mainstream press? Is there a predominance of sexually explicit male/male (M/M) books on the market and, if so, is this because erotica sells better among GLBT listeners, or is it because there is a lack of literary novels written from the GLBT perspective? Why are (M/M) romance audiobooks so popular with young heterosexual women? Why are there comparatively so few audiobooks from the lesbian, bisexual, and transgender perspective? And what of the GLBT young adult market? We will tackle as many of these questions as possible and hopefully discover what's working and what's not, and discover how to get the GLBT audiobook on a road to success.
